TUCKER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Miners at Mettiki Coal were notified Thursday that the company’s Mountain View Mine in Tucker County will permanently close, resulting in the loss of nearly 200 jobs.
According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the state of West Virginia, 199 employees at the Mountain View Mine will be laid off as part of the closure.
The notice states the layoffs are scheduled to take effect April 1.
Company officials did not provide a reason for the mine’s closure in the WARN filing, and no additional details were immediately available.
The Mountain View Mine has been a significant employer in Tucker County, and the closure is expected to have a substantial impact on workers and the surrounding community.
Under federal law, WARN notices are required to give advance notice of large-scale layoffs or plant closures, allowing employees and local officials time to prepare for job losses.
