CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) announced today that it will accept applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), a federally funded program assists eligible West Virginians with home heating costs, from Monday, February 2, 2026, through Friday, February 20, 2026, or until funding is exhausted.
Eligibility for LIEAP benefits is based on income, household size, and responsibility for heating expenses. For fiscal year 2026, income eligibility is set at 60 percent of the state median income for households of up to seven individuals and 150 percent of the federal poverty level for households with eight or more members.
To qualify, households must meet all program guidelines and income requirements for every household member. Applications are available online at www.wvpath.wv.gov, at your local DoHS office, or at participating community agencies. Households whose countable income exceeds the maximum amount are not eligible. However, some types of income may be excluded for LIEAP.
