CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS), Bureau for Family Assistance (BFA), will begin accepting applications for the 2025 School Clothing Allowance program on July 7.
The program provides a $200 benefit per eligible child to help cover the cost of school clothing or materials for families who sew garments at home.
Eligibility is based on household income and school enrollment within West Virginia.
All families must apply, and proof of income for the month of July is required. For example, the income limit for a family of four is $3,380 per month.
The full income eligibility guidelines are as follows:
- 1 person: $1,632
- 2 people: $2,215
- 3 people: $2,798
- 4 people: $3,380
- 5 people: $3,963
- 6 people: $4,456
- 7 people: $5,129
- 8 people: $5,712
- 9 people: $6,295
- 10 people: $6,878
- Add $583 for each additional person
Families can apply online at www.wvPATH.wv.gov or request a paper application through their local DoHS office or by calling 1-877-716-1212. The application deadline is July 31, 2025.
This year, benefits will be distributed through electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards instead of paper vouchers, giving families more flexibility and options when shopping.
The EBT card can be used at any retailer that accepts EBT cash transactions. Foster care providers will receive the allowance in the form of a check.
