CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia’s House of Delegates is considering a bill that would adjust the academic calendar for public schools.
House Bill 3101 proposes that, starting with the 2025-2026 school year, classes would commence no earlier than the Tuesday after Labor Day and conclude no later than the Friday before Memorial Day.
This change aims to standardize the school year across the state.
By aligning the start and end dates with these holidays, the bill would provide a predictable framework for planning vacations and other activities.
The bill was introduced on March 4, 2025, by Delegates Adam Vance (R-Wyoming), Mark Dean (R-Mingo), Jordan Bridges (R-Logan), Elliott Pritt (R-Fayette), Thomas Clark (R-Webster), and Phil Mallow (R-Marion).
The bill has been referred to the Committee on Education for further consideration.
If enacted, the bill would mandate that all county boards of education adjust their school calendars to comply with the new timeframe, ensuring that the instructional term fits within the specified dates.
