CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia’s top elected officials are offering prayers and well wishes to former President Joseph R. Biden Jr., who has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, his spokesperson confirmed Sunday.
Governor Patrick Morrisey expressed sympathy and support, saying, “Tonight, West Virginia sends out prayers to our former President, Joe Biden, as he fights pancreatic cancer. We hope he can recover from this terrible disease.”
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito also responded to the news, saying, “My heart goes out to former President Joe Biden and his family with the news of this diagnosis. Wishing him recovery and strength during this time.”
Congressman Riley Moore offered his own words of support, stating, “Terrible news to hear this afternoon. Mina and I are praying for the former president and his family.”
Biden, 82, was diagnosed following the discovery of a prostate nodule during a recent medical evaluation.
Further testing confirmed the presence of a more advanced, though hormone-sensitive, form of prostate cancer.
According to a statement from his spokesperson, the diagnosis includes a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the spokesperson said.
The former president and his family are currently working with his medical team to determine a course of treatment. No specific plan has been announced at this time.
