NITRO, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested in Nitro on May 18 after allegedly throwing rocks and a beer can at a Chinese food delivery driver while yelling racial slurs and acting aggressively in the street.
According to police, officers responded to a disturbance call around 58 Collins Drive after dispatch received reports of a shirtless, intoxicated male yelling at a delivery driver and throwing objects. When officers arrived, they found the man—later identified as Lawrence Young III—screaming and cursing in the street with a beer can in hand.
Despite being ordered to stop, Young continued shouting, referring to the delivery driver as a “terrorist” before officers detained him for public safety.
The caller told officers he had ordered food from Golden Wok, and as the delivery driver arrived, Young became verbally abusive and began throwing rocks and a beer can at the driver. The situation escalated to the point that the driver felt unsafe, canceled the delivery, and left the area.
Officers followed up with the delivery driver at Golden Wok. Through a translation app, he confirmed that Young verbally assaulted him and threw objects, prompting him to flee the scene.
When asked about the incident, Young apologized to officers and admitted, “I was hallucinating,” claiming he had been using meth and alcohol.
Young was arrested and charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication. He was transported to jail.
