WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A West Virginia man is facing criminal charges after police say he became aggressive and assaulted an officer responding to a reported domestic disturbance.
According to a criminal complaint, officers were dispatched on July 28, 2026, after receiving an anonymous report of a verbal domestic disturbance on Moran Avenue.
When the responding officer arrived, they made contact with the defendant, who was allegedly yelling at another individual.
The officer reported detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the defendant and repeatedly offered to drive him home, believing he was too impaired to safely operate a vehicle.
According to the complaint, the defendant refused each offer, insisting he would not leave without his car. The officer advised him that he was not in a condition to drive and again offered him a ride home.
Police say the defendant then became increasingly aggressive, stepped toward the officer, and ignored attempts to de-escalate the situation. When the officer extended a hand to keep the defendant from getting closer, the defendant allegedly slapped the officer’s hand away.
The officer attempted to place the man under arrest, but investigators say the defendant resisted by pulling away, pushing against the officer, and trying to break free from the officer’s grasp. The struggle caused both the officer and the defendant to fall to the ground before the officer was able to secure the man in handcuffs.
The defendant was placed in a patrol vehicle and charged with obstructing an officer and battery on a law enforcement officer.
