CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A former postal worker has been sentenced to two years of federal probation and ordered to pay more than $2,000 in restitution after admitting to dumping hundreds of pieces of mail and stealing money and gift cards.
Brice Allen Pomeroy, 26, of Hernshaw, pleaded guilty to obstruction of mail after throwing away approximately 227 pieces of mail on May 11, 2023. The discarded mail, which included Mother’s Day, graduation, birthday, and anniversary cards, was found in a trash can outside a Charleston gas station.
At the time, Pomeroy was employed by a U.S. Postal Service vendor as a mail handler in Charleston. By the time the mail was recovered, cash and gift cards worth $2,051.21 had been removed.
United States District Judge Irene C. Berger handed down the sentence. The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan T. Storage.
Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the sentence and praised the investigators for their work.
