CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Republican Party on Thursday voiced its support for President Donald Trump’s address to the nation on election integrity, praising the administration’s election security agenda and urging the U.S. Senate to pass the SAVE America Act.
According to the party, Trump’s address focused on strengthening election security, enforcing federal election laws, protecting the rights of eligible voters, and ensuring the integrity of legally cast ballots. The president also renewed his call for Congress to approve the SAVE America Act, legislation aimed at strengthening citizenship verification requirements for federal voter registration.
The party said the president’s election integrity agenda includes stronger voter eligibility verification, improved maintenance of voter registration rolls, greater cooperation between federal and state agencies, enforcement against election crimes, protections against foreign interference, and increased transparency throughout the election process.
The statement also noted that Trump said while states are responsible for administering elections under the Constitution, the federal government plays a role in enforcing federal election laws, protecting elections from foreign interference, ensuring only eligible citizens participate in federal elections, and coordinating efforts among federal agencies.
The West Virginia Republican Party said the state has become a national leader in election integrity through measures including voter identification requirements, voter registration roll maintenance, absentee voting procedures, and protections against election fraud.
West Virginia Republican Party Chairman Josh Holstein added:
“President Trump made clear tonight that declassified intelligence reports shows that our elections have been subject to foreign influence and administrative failures. These revelations compounded with state laws that allow for no voter ID leave our elections vulnerable in many states across the nation. Thankfully, here in West Virginia, we have implemented many election integrity safeguards such as photo ID to keep our elections safe and secure.”
Holstein continued, “The House of Representatives has acted. Now it is time for the United States Senate to do the same by passing the SAVE America Act and sending it to President Trump’s desk. Election Integrity should not be a partisan issue because it is a fundamental safeguard of our republic.”
The West Virginia Republican Party said it will continue working with President Trump, Governor Patrick Morrisey, Secretary of State Kris Warner, the West Virginia Legislature, and Republican officials to promote election security efforts in the state.
The party also encouraged West Virginians to review the declassified documents discussed by the president, along with the administration’s election integrity agenda, executive actions, and related resources, on the White House’s Election Integrity webpage.
