UPSHUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Upshur County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Thursday, January 22, 2025, after the driver lost control on black ice.
According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, the bus slid on icy conditions and went up an embankment along Route 20. The driver and 25 school-age children were on board at the time of the crash.

One child was transported to a hospital for evaluation. The remaining children were checked at the scene and later transported away on another bus, authorities said.
Route 20 was shut down for an extended period while emergency crews responded and the scene was cleared.
Assisting agencies included the West Virginia State Police, the Adrian Fire Department, the Banks District Fire Department, and Upshur County EMS.
No further details were released regarding the extent of injuries or the condition of those involved.
