WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Flooding in parts of West Virginia Thursday evening has resulted in some closures for Friday.
According to Berkeley County Schools, Martinsburg High School will be closed to students Friday, Aug. 28, after severe rainfall caused significant water intrusion at the school.
School officials said teams inspected all schools following Thursday’s storms and worked to address weather-related issues. Custodians were working Thursday evening to clean affected areas and prepare schools to reopen Friday.
However, Martinsburg High School will require additional time to clean and dry areas impacted by water, prompting the decision to close the school to students.
Martinsburg High School staff members are asked to report at 8 a.m. Friday.
Students who attend classes at James Rumsey Technical Institute, Shepherd University or Blue Ridge Community and Technical College may attend those classes at their own discretion. There will be no JROTC activities Friday.
Information regarding extracurricular and after-school activities will be communicated directly to students and families by Martinsburg High School.
In Putnam County, Eastbrook Elementary School will be closed on Friday due to ongoing utility issues.
Aside from schools, the Berkeley County Fire Service Board and the Berkeley County Emergency Ambulance Authority will be closed to the public on Friday due to storm-related flooding.
All other county offices will open for regular business hours.
