WASHINGTON, D.C. (LOOTPRESS) – The federal government will soon enter a shutdown as lawmakers have failed to reach an agreement on a funding measure.
West Virginia’s U.S. Senators, Shelley Moore Capito and Jim Justice, criticized Senate Democrats for rejecting what they described as a clean short-term funding bill.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito said she voted “to keep the government open and ensure the critical services that many rely on can continue to operate.”
She added, “Shutdowns are unnecessary and costly, especially to small businesses and federal employees in West Virginia and across the country.”
Capito blamed Democrats for blocking the measure, stating, “Senate Democrats chose to play politics instead of working with us to get the 60 votes needed in the Senate to prevent a government shutdown. Now, they’re refusing to support an identical measure.”
Sen. Jim Justice issued a similar statement, saying, “This shouldn’t be a food fight. Senate Republicans put forward a clean bill to keep the government open: a bill similar to what Democrats have voted for 13 times in the past. Now, West Virginians will face the fallout of a Democrat forced government shutdown all over political demands.”
Justice called the decision “plain and simple political sabotage at the expense of the American people” and urged Democrats to “stop the games and work with us to reopen the government.”
Both senators said the shutdown will harm federal employees, small businesses, and families across West Virginia, while calling for a bipartisan resolution to restore funding.
