CUMBERLAND, MD (LOOTPRESS) – A West Virginia woman was arrested Saturday evening after a traffic stop on Interstate 68 led to the discovery of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine and other drugs, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
At approximately 8:17 p.m. on June 21, 2025, a Cumberland police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling westbound on I-68. The driver was identified as Kelly Jean Channell, 53, of Elkins.
Police say they later learned Channell had an active arrest warrant issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). A police K-9 was deployed and gave a positive alert for the presence of narcotics.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a significant amount of suspected methamphetamine along with several other controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
Channell was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. The existing ATF warrant was used as a detainer, and she is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
She faces multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances, possession of a large amount of CDS, four counts of possession of CDS (not cannabis), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
