CLARKSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Braxton County woman has been sentenced to federal prison for her role in a methamphetamine trafficking scheme that used the U.S. Mail to transport drugs into West Virginia.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia, Kelly Marie Myers, 56, of Flatwoods, was sentenced Tuesday to 12 months in prison.
Court documents state the investigation began after U.S. Postal Inspection Service personnel in Charleston intercepted a suspicious USPS Priority Mail parcel. Investigators later obtained a federal search warrant and discovered approximately 890 grams of methamphetamine inside the package.
Authorities said the parcel had been mailed from Moreno Valley, California, and was addressed to “K. Myers” at a Flatwoods residence.
Investigators removed the methamphetamine and made the parcel available for pickup at the Flatwoods Post Office. Postal inspectors and local law enforcement then conducted surveillance as the package was retrieved, ultimately leading to Myers.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.
