GHENT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Winterplace has ramped up its snowmaking efforts and, with snowfall in the forecast, is building upon an already established base to create prime conditions for winter enthusiasts this holiday weekend. The resort plans to have 23 of its 28 trails open. Its popular Heaven Holler Terrain Park will also be open and refreshed with new features.
“We have been fortunate to open early this season, but the winter fun is really just getting started at Winterplace,” said Josh Faber, General Manager at Winterplace. “Whether you are a seasoned skier or simply want to enjoy some outdoor fun tubing with the kids, the long holiday weekend is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the snow and outdoor recreation Winterplace has to offer.”
MLK WEEKEND HOURS & HELPFUL INFORMATION
Saturday, January 17 through Monday, January 19, Winterplace is open for skiing and snowtubing from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
MLK is one of the busiest weekends for Winterplace. To maximize fun and stay safe on the slopes, the resort recommends the following tips.
1) Save time by picking up passes and rentals for Saturday on Friday night from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. This expedites the ticketing and rental process. Saturday morning the ticket window and rental shop will open one hour earlier beginning at 7 a.m.
2) Stay safe on the slopes. The National Ski Areas Association has a responsibility code that includes helpful rules and tips to ensure a safe and smooth slope experience. The resort recommends checking out the safety video on its website ahead of time, especially with the busyness of the holiday weekend.
3) Allow ample time. Skiers interested in enjoying a more leisurely lunch, should plan meals early or later to avoid the rush at noon. The Mountain House cafeteria and food trucks on site are also a great option to avoid crowds. Beginners taking lessons should also allow plenty of time to get setup. The resort recommends arriving two hours ahead to get gear and ensure they are on the snow 5-10 minutes early as lessons start promptly at the scheduled time.
4) Dress in layers. Skiers should dress in layers and not put everything on until it’s time to go outside. This will help avoid getting overheated while waiting in line for rental gear or food.
