WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Parkersburg woman is facing first-degree arson charges after allegedly setting fire to an outbuilding while a man was still inside.
According to the Parkersburg Police Department, Patrolman J.C. Matthew responded to a report of a possible structure fire at 511 13th 1/2 Street in Wood County on February 6, 2025. Upon arrival, the officer observed smoke and flames coming from a detached outbuilding located behind the residence.
The structure’s occupant, Dashee Townes, told police that he was asleep inside when he was awakened by the sound of rustling. Upon investigation, he saw Mary Balderson inside the building holding a bottle of lighter fluid. Townes stated that Balderson then began spraying the lighter fluid on the floor near the door and window before using a lighter to ignite the fire, trapping him inside.
