ALUM CREEK, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly firing a gun at a gas station clerk during an attempted robbery early Friday morning in Lincoln County.
According to the West Virginia State Police, troopers responded around 3:30 a.m. on May 1, 2026, to a shots fired call at the Alum Creek Shell Station on Little Coal River Road.
The victim told investigators a woman later identified as Rebecca Peterson entered the store, pointed a handgun at him, and repeatedly demanded money, stating, “this is a robbery.”
Authorities say when the clerk asked her to put the gun down, Peterson fired a shot in his direction. She then moved into a back room, where she allegedly shot and destroyed a surveillance camera valued at approximately $250.
Peterson fled the scene in a vehicle, prompting a BOLO alert. Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office quickly located her on U.S. Route 119 near the scene, where she was detained.
Troopers transported Peterson back to the gas station, where the victim positively identified her as the suspect. Investigators also confirmed her identity through surveillance footage from inside the store.
Peterson is charged with attempted first-degree armed robbery, wanton endangerment involving a firearm, brandishing a deadly weapon, assault, and destruction of property under $2,500.
She remains in custody as the investigation continues.
