RAINELLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Greenbrier County woman was arrested Monday after deputies responded to a reported domestic dispute at a Rainelle residence.
Deputy A.B. Davis of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched on March 2, 2026, to a home on Cottonwood Place after a caller reported an assault.
According to authorities, the caller, Robert Bailey, told dispatchers that his wife, Rebecca Bailey, had come to the residence and began screaming before allegedly slapping and scratching him during an argument. Dispatchers also reported that the suspect had left the scene in a white Chevy Cruze.
West Virginia State Police Trooper Oliver, who was in the area at the time, began searching for the vehicle while Deputy Davis responded to the home.
When Davis arrived, Bailey told deputies the argument began after his wife came home and escalated into a physical altercation. Bailey said Rebecca slapped him in the face and scratched him on his ribs and upper back near his neck.
Deputies documented visible scratch marks that broke the skin, and photographs were taken as evidence.
About 12 minutes after the call was reported, Trooper Oliver located and stopped a white Chevy Cruze matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle approximately two miles away in neighboring Fayette County. The vehicle’s registration was confirmed to belong to Rebecca Bailey.
Deputy Davis instructed Trooper Oliver to place Bailey under arrest and transport her to the Rainelle Detachment of the West Virginia State Police for processing.
While in custody, Rebecca Bailey agreed to provide a statement after being read her Miranda rights. During the interview, she admitted to smacking her husband, but claimed the scratch marks were not caused by her. Instead, she alleged they were from another woman she believed her husband had been with earlier that day.
Body camera footage of Bailey’s statement was collected and will be preserved as evidence according to department policy.
Bailey was processed by Trooper Oliver and transported to Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.
Deputies also advised the victim about his right to file a Domestic Violence Protective Order (DVP). A magistrate informed him that because the suspect had already been arrested and no immediate threat remained, the protective order would need to be filed the following day.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
