JACKSON COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Bluefield woman is facing multiple charges after a chaotic domestic incident escalated into threats against law enforcement and a struggle at the regional jail.
According to police, the situation began around 9:05 p.m. on April 10, 2026, when a man approached an officer in a Taco Bell parking lot requesting help with a disturbance at his Walnut Street home. He reported that his daughter was causing problems inside the residence.
Shortly after, officers were called to the home, where family members reported the woman had allegedly grabbed and “roughed up” an elderly relative, leaving her feeling threatened.
When officers entered the residence, they located the suspect, identified as Amber Vanater, on a staircase. Police say she refused commands to come downstairs and instead retreated while yelling and acting erratically.
Officers were eventually able to take Vanater into custody, but not without resistance. As she was escorted outside, she allegedly continued yelling and got into a confrontation with a family member.
Police say Vanater continued to scream, resist, and pull away from officers before being placed in a patrol vehicle, where she began kicking the door.
During transport to South Central Regional Jail, Vanater allegedly made multiple threats toward the transporting officer, including statements indicating she would kill him.
Authorities say the behavior continued at the jail, where Vanater reportedly resisted correctional officers, physically struggled with staff, and prevented them from completing a medical screening.
Charges are pending in connection with the incident.
