KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman wanted for fraudulently obtaining over $2,000 in flood relief goods has been arrested.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), Brittany Lee Hackney, 26-years-old of Sissonville, who was wanted in connection with a fraudulent scheme case has been located and arrested in Jackson County by deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
An arrest warrant was issued by Kanawha County Magistrate Court on September 15, 2023, for one felony count of obtaining money, property, and services under false pretenses.
The charge stemmed after two disaster relief organizations filed complaints with Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office stating that Hackney had claimed to be a victim during the recent flooding.
Hackney is accused of accepting over $2000.00 in goods and services by the organizations.
A preliminary hearing date has been set for October 5, 2023, in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. The KCSO says that Brittany Hackney is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
