CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Investigators with the WV State Fire Marshal’s Office say that a 71-year-old female was the victim in a fatal fire that occurred a couple of weeks ago in Huntington.
The victim died at the scene of the fire on Braxton Drive on Jan.19th. WV State Fire Marshals recovered the body, which has been sent to the WV State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and positive identification.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time. No other injuries were reported.
WVSFMO investigators have also arrested a Taylor County woman on arson and other related charges.
Ashten Kalli Teets, 31 years old, is accused of setting fire to a home on Bentridge Road in Thornton back on Dec. 1st, 2023. The fire then spread to surrounding property, also destroying a vehicle.
The WVSFMO and assistance from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office arrested Teets on Jan. 26th. She is being charged with one count of first-degree arson, two counts of third-degree arson, and one count each of burglary, forging and uttering and starting fires a fire on the lands of another.
Teets is being held at the North Central Regional Jail on a $100,000.00 cash or surety bond.
