MILWAUKEE, WI (LOOTPRESS) – A Milwaukee woman has been arrested and charged with felony arson after allegedly setting fire to her apartment during what she described as a “satanic ritual.” Charmilia Jeffries, 36, was taken into custody after first responders were called to an apartment building on 75th Street in response to a fire.
While no injuries were reported, the incident has drawn significant attention due to Jeffries’ explanation of the blaze. According to a criminal complaint obtained by WISN, Jeffries told investigators that she intentionally started the fire as part of a ritual intended to counteract “witchcraft traps” she believed were in her home.
Details of the Incident
The fire, reported on December 21, prompted a swift response from Milwaukee’s fire department and police. During questioning, Jeffries reportedly claimed the ritual was necessary to protect herself, stating, “They’ve been setting me up, putting witchcraft traps around my house.”
Jeffries also allegedly asked her son, whose age and identity have not been disclosed, to remove the smoke detectors from their home before the fire, saying she found them “suspicious.”
Legal Proceedings
Jeffries was arrested at the scene and charged with felony arson. She is currently being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $7,500 bond. As of now, no court date has been set.
Community Impact
Residents of the apartment building expressed relief that no one was injured in the incident but voiced concerns about the safety of the neighborhood following the unusual event. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
Jeffries remains in custody as she awaits further legal proceedings.
