WINFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman was arrested for DUI after driving to a Halloween event and crashing with minors in a car.
On October 26, 2024, authorities responded to a concerning call at the popular Halloween event “Fear on the Farm” on Winfield Road in Putnam County. A caller reported that her friend’s mother, identified as Teakias Kenita Brown, was heavily intoxicated after driving a group of children to the event. According to the call, Brown had backed her vehicle into a fence upon arrival and appeared unable to drive.
When deputies arrived, a witness confirmed seeing Brown, described as a Black woman in a colorful shirt, hit the fence with her red Ford Escape. Deputies noted visible damage to the vehicle’s bumper and the nearby fence. Authorities located Brown near the event’s admission booth, where she reportedly appeared visibly impaired, stumbling and slurring her speech. When asked if she was intoxicated, Brown allegedly admitted, “I’m messed up,” though she initially denied consuming alcohol or drugs.
Field sobriety tests were conducted on Brown, and she displayed significant signs of impairment, agreeing to a preliminary breath test (PBT), which registered a blood alcohol content of 0.336. She was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the courthouse, where further testing confirmed a BAC of 0.307.
Further investigation revealed that Brown’s daughters had been passengers in her car when she drove to the event from Nitro, WV. Brown later confessed to drinking continuously for a week and expressed regret, stating she deserved the consequences. The charges include two counts of DUI with a minor in the vehicle, aggravated DUI, and two counts of child neglect creating the risk of injury.
