BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Mercer County woman is behind bars after being caught on home surveillance footage breaking into vehicles early Tuesday morning in Bluefield.
Deputies responded to a home on South Upshur Street after resident Kya Hall received a motion alert from her security camera system. Upon reviewing the footage, Hall saw a white female in a blue hoodie and jean shorts enter her green Ford Focus and attempt to rummage through her vehicle.
Hall immediately confronted the woman, who fled the property toward Old Bramwell Road. Shortly afterward, authorities located a suspect matching the description in the nearby Midway Park area.
The suspect initially identified herself as “Brandy Young,” but deputies were unable to verify her identity. She later claimed her name was “Brandy Casey,” but officers with the Bluefield Police Department recognized her as Brandy Herald — someone they were familiar with.
At the time of her detention, Herald was carrying several tablecloths and a handful of plastic straws, items that Hall later confirmed had been inside her work apron, which was found disturbed in a second vehicle — a blue Toyota 4Runner — parked on the property.
Herald admitted to entering the vehicles but claimed she didn’t steal anything. However, based on video evidence, a positive ID by the homeowner, and items found in her possession, authorities arrested her at the scene.
Brandy Herald now faces multiple charges, including:
- Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle (WV Code §61-3-12)
- Petit Larceny (WV Code §61-3-13(b))
- Obstructing an Officer (WV Code §61-5-17)
She was transported to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department for processing.
