PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One individual was recovered Thursday evening from a vehicle that had been submerged underwater for nearly two hours.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 7:00pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024, Wood County E911 received reports of a vehicle stuck in the water on Nicholette Road.
Authorities were advised shortly after by a caller that the vehicle had gone underwater with a female occupant still inside. The woman was reportedly attempting to escape the vehicle as it sank.
An unidentified male passerby is said to have entered the water in an effort to aid anyone inside. Due to the water conditions, however, these attempts were unsuccessful.
Responders from the Eastwood Volunteer Fire Department, St Joe Ambulance Service, and the Wood County Sheriff’s Office were among those dispatched to the scene.
Upon the arrival of responders, it was confirmed that a vehicle had indeed entered the water, and that a person was trapped inside.
Assistance was requested by responders from the Little Hocking VFD dive team, who made their way to the area and began recovery operations.
At around 8:51pm, divers made contact with the vehicle submerged in the water and began recovery operations. The vehicle was partially recovered by divers, along with Pifer’s wrecker service.
One individual was discovered inside the vehicle. Authorities are withholding identifying information with regard to the victim at the time of writing until such a time as family members can be properly informed.
Recovery operations are said to be ongoing at this time.
