CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A late-night trip to a local Sheetz turned tragic in the early hours of May 27, 2025, when a woman was fatally shot in what authorities are calling an accidental discharge of a firearm.
At approximately 12:04 a.m., officers responded to the Sheetz parking lot at 5623 MacCorkle Avenue SE after reports of a gunshot and a woman collapsing near the gas pumps. The victim, Tiffany Adkins, was struck in the back of the head by a bullet and died at the scene.
According to police, Jacob Fields was sitting in the driver’s seat of a maroon Chevy Equinox with West Virginia plates 928464A, parked at the pumps. Fields told officers he was cleaning a Glock 20 Gen 10mm pistol when the gun discharged, sending a round through the front windshield and into the parking lot—where it struck Adkins.
Witnesses at the scene confirmed hearing a loud bang before seeing Adkins collapse, bleeding from the head.
The investigation remains active. Fields has been charged with a felony for wanton endangerment involving a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of involuntary manslaughter. He is being held in South Central Regional Jail under a 50,000 dollar bond.
