HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman kills a cat by beating it on her balcony; she gave no motive to police for killing it.
On July 14, 2024, around 3:50 PM, Police responded to a call regarding the killing of an animal at 38 W 7th Avenue, Apartment 15, Huntington, West Virginia. Witnesses reported that they had observed a suspect beating a cat on the balcony of their apartment complex. A witness stated the cat belonged to him and his roommates.
Upon arriving, Police found a black cat lying motionless on the balcony between Apartments 15 and 16. The witness claimed the suspect, later identified as Angela Smith of Apartment 16, had beaten the cat with a hammer before going back inside.
Police spoke with Smith, who stated she had pushed the cat off her leg as she arrived home. She later admitted to bringing the cat inside for food and water but then letting it back outside.
After further investigation, another witness informed police that the suspected weapon was a wooden spindle from their balcony, which had been broken and lying on the floor for days. A witness believed he had seen Smith with the spindle earlier and that she had used it to crack their window.
Police searched Smith’s apartment with her consent and found the missing wooden spindle in her kitchen.
Smith is charged with cruelty to animals.
