DINGESS, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A woman was hospitalized with serious facial injuries after an alleged assault in Mingo County over the weekend, according to the West Virginia State Police.
Trooper J.P. Ziegler of the Williamson Detachment responded to the incident after receiving a complaint on Sunday, June 16, 2024. The report came from Pauline Compton, who stated that her sister, Nyoka Blevins, had been assaulted by a woman identified as Fannie Chaffins. Compton said Blevins may have suffered a fractured nose and was advised to seek immediate medical attention.
The following day, Trooper Ziegler met with Blevins at her home on Silk Branch Road in Dingess. Blevins told the trooper that she had gone to deliver clothing and personal items to her estranged husband, Jerry Fleming, when Chaffins approached her vehicle. According to Blevins, Chaffins reached through the driver’s side window and repeatedly struck her with closed fists, causing Blevins to lose consciousness.
Blevins was treated at Logan Regional Medical Center and referred to a surgeon for facial surgery due to a broken nose.
Photographs taken by the officer showed significant swelling and bruising to Blevins’ face and nose, along with blood visible inside her Chevrolet Trailblazer.
