OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Early Tuesday morning, a woman sought refuge inside the restroom of the Little General gas station along Route 10 in Oceana, claiming she had just been assaulted.
At approximately 5:52 a.m., Wyoming County Emergency Communications dispatched officers to the scene after store employees reported a frantic woman entered the store and asked them to call 911, stating she had been beaten. The woman then locked herself in the restroom, refusing to come out until authorities arrived.
When officers reached the location, the woman, later identified as the victim, exited the store and informed officers that she had been assaulted by Ardelle Lane, whom she had been sitting with across the street. She alleged that Lane had struck her in the back of the head and ribs and grabbed her by the neck before walking away. The victim said she then ran across the street to call for help.
Officers on scene did not observe any visible injuries, but they obtained a written and signed statement from the victim. The case remains under investigation.
