MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman is facing charges after she refused to leave her home after setting it on fire, causing her dog to die, and kicking a deputy in the genitals.
According to Mercer County Deputies, on December 9, 2022, a woman who identified herself as Robin Rutherford advised she had set her house on fire using butane and was refusing to exit the home. When deputies arrived, they observed smoke through the house’s windows and a fire inside. Deputies tried to force entry through the door but were met with heavy smoke.
As deputies waited for fire officials to arrive, they were able to locate Rutherford by looking through a sliding glass door, but there was no smoke in that area. Deputies say they attempted to talk to Rutherford and get her to exit, but she refused and laid down on a bed.
Once fire departments arrived, they made entry to retrieve Rutherford. While speaking with EMS, Rutherford kept asking them, “Did I at least burn my house down?” The suspect refused treatment and told officials, “I will f*&*ing kill you!” Deputies arrested Rutherford for arson. While in the cruiser, deputies say that Rutherford kept asking, “Did I at least burn my house down?” and “Did my kids at least see me burn my house down?”
During processing, Rutherford became irate and kicked a deputy in his genitalia. The fire department told deputies that a dog was found upstairs in the back room that had died from smoke inhalation.
Rutherford was charged with arson and battery on a police officer. She is being held in Southern Regional Jail under a 20,000 cash-only bond
