Authorities are investigating the death of a 29-year-old woman in Calhoun County as a possible homicide.
According to the West Virginia State Police, the investigation began around 2:38 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, when Sgt. N. S. Stepp of the Grantsville Detachment initiated an investigation into the death of Emily Metheney near the community of Chloe.
State police said the investigation remains ongoing. At this time, officials say there is no reason to believe there is any continuing threat to the public.
Sgt. Stepp is being assisted in the investigation by troopers from the Grantsville, Spencer, and Clay detachments.
The West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team and Polygraph Unit are also involved, along with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities confirmed that the victim’s next of kin has been notified. No additional information has been released as the investigation continues.
