BUCKHANNON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities are investigating a fatal workplace accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon at Appalachian Forest Products in Buckhannon.
According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of an industrial accident at the facility on June 9, 2026, at approximately 3 p.m.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel located Michael D. Martin, 73, of Mannington, who had sustained fatal injuries as a result of the incident. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation. The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office said it is working with appropriate workplace safety and regulatory agencies to determine the events that led to the incident.
No additional information has been released at this time as the investigation continues.
The sheriff’s office extended its condolences to Martin’s family, friends and coworkers.
