GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Agriculture is scheduled to conduct aerial treatments to suppress black flies along portions of the Greenbrier, New and Bluestone rivers on Wednesday, July 8, according to Greenbrier County Homeland Security & Emergency Management.
Officials said the treatments will use biological, not chemical, methods to reduce black fly populations.
The aerial operations are planned for July 8 but remain dependent on favorable weather conditions and river water levels. If conditions are not suitable, the treatments could be delayed.
Residents who live or recreate near the affected rivers may notice low-flying aircraft during the operation. Officials emphasized that the treatment is biological in nature and is designed specifically to target black fly larvae.
