WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Officials with the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation joined state leadership and community partners at 11 a.m. today to mark the official grand opening of the refurbished Anthony Correctional Center and Jail.
The completed $35 million modernization project replaces legacy infrastructure with state-of-the-art security, expanded vocational training space, modernized housing units and upgraded educational facilities.
“This modernized facility represents a major reinvestment in public safety and effective rehabilitation,” said David Kelly, commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation. “The primary goal at Anthony is to intervene early in the lives of young adult offenders, equip them with practical job skills and educational credentials, and return them to West Virginia’s workforce as productive, law-abiding citizens. These infrastructure upgrades give our staff the exact tools needed to reduce recidivism and protect taxpayer dollars.”
The Anthony Correctional Center plays a unique role in West Virginia by housing young men and women ages 18 to 25. Sent there under special state laws, these young adults receive skill testing, classroom education, and job training.
With the upgraded facility officially operational, the division continues its commitment to maintaining safe, secure institutions while delivering evidence-based rehabilitation programs that prepare young West Virginians for successful community re-entry.
