POINT PLEASANT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been taken into custody after allegedly setting fire to a Mason County structure and assaulting a victim inside.
According to the Mason County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, EMS members along with Mason County Sheriff’s Office and WVSP members, as well as Mason County volunteer firefighters were dispatched in response to a structure fire on Cherry Drive on Saturday afternoon.
It was determined by investigators that Jason Ray Blankenship is believed to have been responsible for the fire along with the assault of a reported victim.
Blankenship is said to have been located at by the West Virginia State Police at 4:45pm on Oshel Road, where he was placed under arrest and taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Further investigation will be conducted and authorities have notified the WV State Fire Marshal of the situation.
Authorities have reassured the public that the situation is under control and that there is no threat to the public. It was also confirmed that the fire itself was extinguished by responders.
