INSTITUTE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia State University is mourning the loss of Jyilek Harrington, a senior and member of the Yellow Jacket football team, who passed away on Wednesday evening following an off-campus incident.
Harrington, known for his leadership both on and off the field, was a beloved figure at WVSU and within his community.
The university has extended its deepest condolences to Harrington’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches.
To honor his memory, a moment of silence will be observed before tonight’s football game against Carson-Newman University, scheduled for 6 PM.
In recognition of Harrington’s dedication to helping others, WVSU’s Athletic Department has established the Jyilek Harrington Memorial Fund.
Proceeds will be donated to an organization in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, to continue his charitable work.
Harrington was known for organizing fundraisers during the holiday season to support less fortunate families.
Donations to the memorial fund can be made through the university’s website.
