MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia University Police Department (UPD) issued a Community Notice on Wednesday, Oct. 23, following a rise in reports of vehicle thefts.
According to WVU, since Oct. 19, four cases of larceny from vehicles have been reported in parking areas near the Mountainlair, the WVU College of Law, and Fife Avenue.
On Oct. 23, Cristine Flesher, 40, of Morgantown, was arrested and charged with larceny from a vehicle.
Flesher, who is not affiliated with the University, is accused of stealing from a vehicle parked at the Mountainlair Parking Garage. UPD credited surveillance footage for the swift arrest.
“This case and the others serve as reminders that we must all be vigilant and take steps to prevent crimes of opportunity,” said UPD Chief Sherry St. Clair.
These incidents follow previous theft reports mentioned in a Sept. 11 Community Notice.
UPD has increased patrols in the affected areas and continues to investigate the crimes.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact UPD at 304-293-COPS (2677) or visit their office at 992 Elmer Prince Drive. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
