MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia University President Michael T. Benson will travel across the state during the inaugural “Welcome Home Tour,” a five-day series of visits to 18 counties from July 28 to August 1.
The tour will introduce Benson, who became WVU’s 27th president on July 15, to communities, historical landmarks, local businesses, and supporters across the state.

Stops will include receptions, campus-related events, and tours of notable sites. University students, alumni, the Mountaineer Parents Club, and regional leaders are expected to attend.
The tour includes more than two dozen stops in Barbour, Braxton, Brooke, Clay, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Kanawha, Lewis, Marshall, Ohio, Pleasants, Randolph, Taylor, Tyler, Upshur, Wetzel and Wood counties.
Public events include:
- Monday, July 28: Reception at Oglebay Resort, Wheeling (6–7:30 p.m.)
- Tuesday, July 29: Tour of WV Independence Hall, Wheeling (9–10 a.m.); Reception at The Blennerhassett Hotel, Parkersburg (5:30–7 p.m.)
- Wednesday, July 30: Tour of Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, Parkersburg (10–11 a.m.)
- Thursday, July 31: Tour of WVU Jackson’s Mill, Weston (2:30–3:45 p.m.); Reception at Pete Dye Golf Club, Bridgeport (6–8 p.m.)
- Friday, August 1: Visit to Historic Philippi Covered Bridge (3:45–4:30 p.m.); Tour of Mother’s Day Shrine, Grafton (5–5:45 p.m.)
Future tour stops will expand into all 55 West Virginia counties and neighboring states. WVU’s fall semester begins August 20.
