MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia University President Michael T. Benson will continue his inaugural “Welcome Home Tour” with visits to Boone, Gilmer, Lincoln, Logan and Mingo counties this week.
The three-day tour, scheduled for Sept. 23–25, includes stops at historical sites, community events, and meetings with alumni, students and local leaders.

Benson will begin Tuesday, Sept. 23, with a presentation at the West Virginia Economic Development Council’s annual meeting at the Bridgeport Conference Center, followed by the WVU Extension Annual Conference at Jackson’s Mill.
He will then visit Glenville State University before heading to Charleston for an evening event with the WVU Alumni Association, where high school juniors and seniors and their families are invited to attend.
On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Benson will tour the Matewan Depot Replica Museum and the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum in Mingo County.
That evening, he will attend an alumni reception at Chief Logan State Park.
The tour concludes Thursday, Sept. 25, with a visit to Boone Memorial Hospital and the “Market on Main” in Madison.
Community members are welcome to attend several of the events, including the Charleston presentation, Matewan museum tours, and the alumni reception in Logan.
Since taking office as WVU’s 27th president earlier this summer, Benson has visited 27 counties in just 10 weeks. His goal is to reach all 55 West Virginia counties by next summer.
Additional tour dates will be announced as details are finalized.
