MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – High school students participating in this year’s WVU Upward Bound summer program will receive free meals throughout the duration of the camp, university officials announced.
Approximately 45 students enrolled in the college-preparation program will be provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Café Evansdale every Monday through Friday from June 23 to July 31. Meals will not be served on July 4 and July 14.
The free meals are made possible through a partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program, which will reimburse Upward Bound for meals served to income-eligible participants.
Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO program aimed at preparing high school students for college by helping them build academic skills and motivation.
The summer program offers students a preview of campus life while strengthening their readiness for post-secondary education.
The WVU program currently serves 60 students in grades 9 through 12 from Preston High School.
