MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia University’s Peyton Hall capped off his wrestling career with a third-place finish at 165 pounds at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday with congratulations from President Trump who was in attendance.
The fifth-year Mountaineer secured his spot on the podium with a major decision victory in his final collegiate match.
Hall began the day by avenging a regular-season loss to Utah Valley’s No. 4 seed Terrell Barraclough in the consolation semifinals.
After securing a 3-1 lead in the second period, Hall trailed 5-4 in the closing moments of the third.
With less than 20 seconds remaining, he executed a decisive takedown to win 7-5 and advance to the third-place match.
Facing Nebraska’s No. 12 seed Christopher Minto with a bronze medal on the line, Hall dominated the second period with two takedowns and secured the riding time point for a commanding 13-5 major decision victory.
Hall’s performance marks the highest finish by a WVU wrestler at the NCAA Championships since Zeke Moisey’s runner-up placement at 125 pounds in 2015.
His 17 career NCAA Championship wins tie him with Greg Jones for the most in Mountaineer history.
As a team, West Virginia finished tied for 18th place with 21 points, marking the program’s first back-to-back top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships since 2004-05.
The Mountaineers placed 17th last season.
