WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Wyoming County Board of Education has appointed former Superintendent Deidre Cline to serve as interim superintendent following the resignation of John Henry.
The board approved Cline’s appointment Thursday afternoon during an emergency meeting. The decision came after board members spent just over 30 minutes in executive session.
Cline’s appointment was approved by a 3-2 roll call vote.
Board President Robin Hall, James Cook and Michael Prichard voted in favor of the appointment. Vice President Douglas Kennedy and April Hedinger voted against it.
Cline’s appointment becomes effective Thursday, Oct. 1, and she will serve as interim superintendent until the board appoints a new permanent superintendent.
The appointment marks a return to the position for Cline, who previously led Wyoming County Schools for eight years. Cline became superintendent in 2016 and remained in the position until her retirement on June 30, 2024.
Henry was selected in January 2024 to succeed Cline and officially became superintendent on July 1, 2024. Before taking the top position, Henry served as the district’s assistant superintendent of support services.
Since retiring from Wyoming County Schools, Cline has continued working in public education. In 2025, she was appointed interim superintendent of Boone County Schools after the West Virginia Board of Education intervened in that school system. She later served as a transition liaison for Logan County Schools.
Henry announced his resignation Monday during a Wyoming County Board of Education meeting, saying he was leaving the school system to pursue an opportunity in the private sector. His resignation took effect Oct. 1.
The board has not yet announced who will become the district’s next permanent superintendent.
