WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wyoming County man was arrested Friday afternoon after deputies say he assaulted a family member following an apparent seizure and was later found carrying a knife and suspected controlled substances.
According to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at approximately 4:14 p.m. on Friday, July 24, when Corporal Tucker Cook responded to a reported physical domestic disturbance at an apartment on Trace Street in Mullens.
The complainant told deputies her son, William Cole, had suffered a seizure and became combative after regaining consciousness.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim told deputies that Cole had taken the garbage outside before returning to the apartment and asking her to come into the living room to listen to a song. She said Cole then began making unusual noises, raised his hands, and started kicking a table, breaking a vase.
The victim told investigators she fled the apartment after Cole allegedly chased her outside and slapped her in the back while she was trying to get away. She said Cole then returned to the apartment while she hid behind a nearby building.
The victim also warned deputies that Cole might be armed with a knife and stated he was suicidal.
When deputies arrived at the residence, they found the apartment door locked. After repeatedly knocking and announcing their presence, officers were eventually able to enter the home. While clearing the residence, deputies continued announcing themselves until they heard someone coming down the stairs.
According to the complaint, Cole identified himself, raised his hands, and was taken into custody without further incident on a charge of domestic battery.
Before placing Cole into a patrol vehicle, deputies searched him and reportedly found a knife in his front right pocket along with three pills marked “54 375.” Investigators identified the pills as a Schedule III controlled substance.
Deputies documented the damage inside the apartment and offered the victim a Domestic Violence Protective Order, which she declined.
Cole was transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department for processing.
