WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A routine patrol turned into a high-speed pursuit late Tuesday night when a Wyoming County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle with no taillights.
According to Sgt. Hedinger, the incident began around 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 5, 2025, while he was patrolling northbound on West Virginia Route 10 near Huff Mountain. Hedinger spotted a white Pontiac sedan traveling southbound without taillights and attempted to catch up.
Once behind the vehicle, which had a West Virginia temporary registration, Hedinger observed it cross the center line several times. He activated his emergency lights, but the driver failed to stop, accelerating instead. With lights and siren engaged, the pursuit continued southbound on Route 10, then onto Route 971 toward Lynco, before turning onto North Avenue where the vehicle finally came to a stop.
The driver, identified as Shawn Cline from prior law enforcement encounters, was taken into custody without further incident. A search of Cline’s person revealed $193 in cash. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a green container with aluminum foil containing a crystal-like substance, which Cline admitted was methamphetamine. Officers also found a pistol magazine with four rounds inside the center console.
A records check revealed Cline’s license was revoked for DUI. He was transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department for processing.
Deputies noted that during the pursuit, several other vehicles were passed on the roadway, adding to the danger of the chase.
Cline now faces multiple charges, including fleeing in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and driving with a revoked license.
