WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wyoming County man was arrested just after midnight on New Year’s Eve following a domestic altercation that deputies say turned physical inside a residence.
According to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, Cpl. Zach Cook responded to a home shortly after 12:10 a.m. for a report of a physical domestic incident. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with Matthew Matz, who officers noted appeared highly intoxicated and was unable to clearly explain what had taken place.
A second individual at the residence told deputies that Matz had been drinking, began arguing and cursing, and was preparing to leave when he allegedly kicked a piece of firewood toward him. The wood struck his shin, causing a large abrasion and bruising, according to the report. A physical altercation followed before the two separated prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
Based on statements from both parties and the injuries observed, deputies determined that the confrontation became physical as a result of Matz kicking the object toward the victim.
Matz was placed under arrest and charged with domestic battery. He was transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
