WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Simon man has been sentenced to prison following a burglary conviction.
Randy Lee Hurley, 57, was sentenced on March 6, 2025, to one to fifteen years in prison for burglary. He pleaded guilty to the charge on January 22, 2025.
The case stems from an incident on October 28, 2024, when Corporal Jacob Ellison and Deputy Matt Perry of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department responded to a burglary in progress in the Hanover area.
Upon arrival, Deputy Perry spoke with the homeowner, who reported receiving a remote security alert about an intruder at his unoccupied residence.
The homeowner identified Hurley on the security footage.
Deputies discovered that an air conditioner unit had been removed to gain access to the home.
Upon entering, they found Hurley attempting to hide.
Wyoming County Prosecutor Gregory Bishop expressed satisfaction with the sentencing.
“We are satisfied with the sentence imposed by Judge Miller in this case,” said Bishop. “Burglary is psychologically and emotionally stressful for the homeowner, and we will seek the harshest punishment possible in Wyoming County.”
Derek Laxton, Wyoming County Assistant Prosecutor, led the case before Wyoming County Circuit Judge Josh Miller.
The investigation was conducted by Corporal Ellison and Deputy Perry.
Bishop also extended his appreciation to Laxton, the prosecutorial staff, and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department for their diligent work in the case.
