SCARBRO, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced a $1.7 million investment toward the improvement of waster a reliable sewer systems infrastructure for Fayette County’s White Oak Public Service District.
The announcement came on Monday from USDA Rural Development West Virginia State Director Ryan Thorn, who emphasized the importance of access to safe resources for all.
“Having clean, reliable, and safe water isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. Infrastructure improvement projects such as this serve as the foundation for future economic and community development,” Thorn pointed out. “This investment will have a lasting economic impact providing new opportunities and ensure that future generations can make a good life right here in rural West Virginia.”
The White Oak Public Service District has been awarded a $1,058,000 low-interest loan along with a $597,000 grant from the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program through Rural Development. These funds will be utilized to implement upgrades to the district’s Glen Jean wastewater treatment plant.
The funds will specifically be used for removal of the secondary biological treatment bypass and installation of a lift station. Rural Development has awarded $7,024,000 to the White Oak Public Service District for facility improvements since 2021.
Rural Development seeks to assist in the expansion of economic opportunities, job creation, and the improvement of quality of life for millions of American citizens in rural regions. Supported through this assistance are business development, infrastructure improvements, community facility like schools, housing, healthcare and public safety, and access to high-speed internet in tribal, rural, and high-poverty areas.
