HILLDALE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Eleven people were displaced after a fire damaged an apartment building at the Hedrick House Apartments in Summers County early Sunday morning.
According to Summers County 911, crews were dispatched at approximately midnight on July 5 to a reported structure fire at the apartment complex on John Tolbert Road in Hilldale. Initial responders included Station 51, Station 14 and Station 13.
Firefighters arrived to find a large, active fire involving one of the apartment buildings. Additional fire departments and emergency agencies were called to assist with the response.
Officials said one building containing eight apartments was affected by the fire, displacing 11 residents. One person sustained a minor injury, was transported to Summers County ARH for treatment and has since been released.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 4 a.m., and all responding units had cleared the scene by 6:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
According to Summers County 911, all displaced residents have been provided shelter and are safe. Property management, the American Red Cross and the Summers County Office of Emergency Management are assisting those affected with housing and other needs.
Summers County 911 thanked the numerous agencies that responded or provided support during the incident.
Summers County 911 also recognized its dispatch staff for efficiently managing the high volume of emergency calls and radio traffic throughout the incident.
