BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two parents are facing child neglect charges after their 4-month-old baby suffered from fluid on the brain and rib fractures.
West Virginia State Police say that a 4-month-old baby was taken to CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital with fluid on the brain and rib fractures. The medical doctor advised that the child’s head circumference was alarmingly high and attributed the exponential growth of fluid as the cause.
The parents, Trey Williams and Saralynn Alderman were interviewed during the investigation. Alderman alleged that during a choking incident, Williams had to “violently” smack the child’s back to get her to breathe. Alderman also stated that one time, the baby fell off of grandma’s lap.
Troopers then contacted the doctor to ask if that incident could have caused the trauma to the baby. The doctor advised that neither situation could have caused that amount of trauma to the child. He continued to say the injuries were a result of a shaking episode or episodes.
Both suspects were charged with child neglect. They are both out on bond.
