BLUEWELL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An 84-year-old man died Monday afternoon after a brush fire got out of control at a residence in Mercer County, according to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Feb. 3 at a home in the 700 block of Nemours Valley Road in Bluewell.
Officials said the man was burning brush when the fire spread. He collapsed while trying to contain the flames.
Investigators from the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office and the Division of Forestry responded to the scene.
The victim was transported to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and formal identification.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name pending confirmation. The investigation is ongoing.
